Welcome Minki to Cheetah Outreach

Our resident meerkat Sebastian now has a companion!

Minki, a young female meerkat, has joined the Cheetah Outreach family.  She was born in the wild on a farm in the Klein Karoo area of South Africa, but was orphaned when her mother was killed by dogs.  She was rescued and hand-raised by a couple in Stellenbosch, near Cheetah Outreach.  Meerkats are social species and Minki’s care-takers, though very attached to her, realized it would be much better for her if she could live with another meerkat.  When she was 4 months old, they brought her for a visit to Cheetah Outreach and she immediately hit it off with Sebastian.  When she was 5 months of age, she came to stay permanently at Cheetah Outreach and after a very easy transition, lives with Sebastian in his enclosure.

Being young, she is full of energy and loves to play.  She keeps Sebastian on his toes but he is very gentle with her.  We are all very happy that Sebastian now has the company of his own species and is no longer alone.
