Somerset West
Our Somerset West facility is located at Paardevlei across from the Somerset
Mall. You do not need to make a booking to visit the facility. We charge an
entry fee of R10 on weekdays and R5 on weekends and public and school
holidays. We have no credit card facilities but an ATM is available for use at
the entrance to the facility..

Activities
Adult Cheetah Encounters
The price is R160 per adult and R100 per child to meet an adult cheetah. Buy
your tickets at the office (cash only). Adult encounters are dependent on the
cheetah settling.
Cheetah Cub Encounters
Cheetah cub encounters take place from 10h00 to 13h00 and from 14h00 to
17h00. We charge R260 per person to meet the cubs. You need to buy your
cub encounter ticket at the entrance. Cub encounters cannot be booked in
advance.
Cubs are normally available from September to March, but this is not
guaranteed so it is best to enquire beforehand if you are interested in these
encounters.
Bat-eared Fox Encounters
Bat-eared fox encounters are dependent on handler availability. Cost is R100
per person, with a maximum of 4 guests per encounter. No children under
10 years of age.
Bat-eared fox encounters last about 10-15 minutes.
Caracal Encounters
Caracal encounters are dependent on handler availability. Cost is R150 per
person, with a maximum of 4 guests per encounter. No children under 12
years of age. Caracal encounters last about 10-15 minutes.
Tours
Tours of the facility are offered throughout the day, every hour on the half-
hour. Tour groups meet in the entrance and are shown audio-visual footage
about the animals and the programme, followed by a tour of the facility.
There is no charge for a tour.
Runs
Runs take place on selected weekdays at 08h00. They are scheduled
according to handler availability. Runs are also weather permitting. Booking is
required and must be confirmed to ensure the run is scheduled.

Cheetahs are run in our large enclosure on a lure system, similar to what is
used for greyhound racing. Please note that though we use our best runners
for public viewing, the success of the run depends on the cats on the day.
Public Runs
Public runs cost R120 per person or R250 per person if an adult encounter is
included or R350 if a cub encounter is included after the run. Viewing is from
a platform outside the running enclosure, which is high enough to give you an
unobstructed view. A Cheetah Outreach volunteer will be with you during the
run to answer any questions. Weather permitting
Private Runs
Private runs cost R3000 per group, not exceeding 6 people. Runs are viewed
from inside the running enclosure. Small children are not allowed. Adult
cheetah encounter during encounter hours are included in the price. Weather
permitting. Booking in advance is required for both public and private runs.
Special Cheetah Experience
Special cheetah experiences are offered only on weekdays and only at 08h00.
Guests are allowed to spend about 30 minutes in a large enclosure with a
cheetah, giving them the opportunity to observe the cat in a more natural
environment than encounters allow. Guests may take photos but are not
permitted to touch the cheetah at this stage. Weather permitting.
Cost is R900 per person with a maximum of 4 guests; children under the age
of 14 are not allowed. It includes a touch encounter with a cheetah and a tour
of the facility afterwards.
Booking well in advance is essential.

Private Encounters
A private meeting with an adult cheetah is available on request and must be
booked well in advance. This exclusive experience is tailored for groups of up
to approximately 30 people. All guests will have an opportunity to stroke the
cat and to take photos.
These functions last approximately 30 minutes, depending on the size of the
group, and behaviour of both the group and cat. The cost is R4850 for the
whole group fully inclusive of entry and a tour.
Off-site Cheetah Appearances
Off-site cheetah appearances are available on request and subject to site
inspection. Cost for an off-site function is R7500.
Shop
Visit our shop at the entrance to the facility for cheetah and other wildlife-
related gifts. Cash only but an ATM is available for use in the entrance.
